Clubs and Activities - 2015
There is a $100.00 student activity fee for participation in one or more extra-curricular activities.
The announcement crew meets to review announcements to be made on the public address system. They conduct the Pledge of Allegiance, read announcements, and recognize the birthdays of students each day. Open only to 8th graders.

Are you interested in testing your knowledge in a competitive team environment? If the answer is YES, then Brain Busters is for you! Brain Busters is a club activity where teams of 7th and 8th grade students compete against other Middle School teams from Bergen County, such as Cresskill, Waldwick and BF!
Our team will meet from 3:00 to 3:30 about two or three times a month to practice answering questions and working with the buzzer system. Meets are held at other schools about once per month. 7th and 8th grade Students only

Did you know that our fundraising built a middle school in rural Cambodia in 2008? Join the Cambodia Club and learn about students in our sister school and other programs we also support in Cambodia. We meet once a month. During our meetings we learn about Cambodia culture, customs, language, and even write letters to our Pen Pals! We are hoping to set up SKYPE to be able to speak with our new friends! We also need fundraising support to keep the programs going! Join your friends in creating and running the best fundraising events! (snacks provided at the meetings!)

The French Club is open to 6, 7, 8 grades. We will discuss French culture, people, foods, movies, etc. We will meet once to twice a month during the year.

GREAT CREATORS WORKSHOP/ART CLUB
An opportunity for visual artists to perfect their skills and to collaborate on project ideas to beautify GW’s surroundings.
Advisor: Mrs. Manke (Art Teacher)
Latin Club is available only to seventh and eighth grade Latin students. During club, we will play Roman games (capita et navia, micatio, par impar, maiores), modern games using Latin (Latin Scrabble, Latin Charades) and make many new crafts for displaying around the room, such as a Roman villa or aquaduct. It is also an opportunity for seventh graders to get free help from eighth grade Latin students or Magister Couch.

Math Counts is a series of competitions designed to produce high levels of math achievement. It is an opportunity for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to be involved in an enriched, challenging experience that promotes a strong and mature interest in math. Students are welcome to compete for a place on the team. This team competes against other local and state teams.

PRISMS LITERARY MAGAZINE
GW’s Prisms Literary Magazine provides an opportunity for students with an interest in creative writing and the arts to work together on a school publication.
Advisor: Mrs. Cannon (Monroe 6 English)
The Spanish Club is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student. We will be meeting twice per month on the first and third Thursday. Join us in “traveling” to various Spanish-speaking countries to explore their unique culture, people, music, and food! We hope to see you there!

Spirit and Service Club
The Spirit and Service Club is a wonderful opportunity for all students to share their enthusiasm for helping others. We coordinate various school-wide drives and efforts during the year to assist local non-profit organizations. In the past we have sponsored the Thanksgiving food drive, toy drives, tab collections and bake sales. Our members are also able to make connections with nursery school students at Westside and first graders at Ridge through the establishment of a monthly reading program.
Advisors: Mrs. Villoslada (Monroe 6 Special Ed.) and Ms. Shine (Godwin 6 Special Ed.)
S.T.E.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. In our club, we learn about things that are related to these topics like robotics or programming. We are also involved in competitions with FLL - First Lego League.

The GW Student Council is the student government organization of the school and is composed of all 3 grade levels. Students work toward the betterment of the school and on several yearly community service projects, school dances, and school-wide spirit activities. Delegates meet regularly with the advisor and the principal to plan these activities.

Track and Field
This is a spring activity open to all grades and genders. It is a “learning the sport” program that will meet approximately 2 times per week and have 2 to 3 track meets against other teams.
Advisor: Mr. Mullin (Godwin Guidance Counselor)
Video Production Club
This club is open to all students who are interested in producing their own movies. Students will learn basic filmmaking techniques, use of digital video cameras, and then edit their work using iMovie. Students who are interested in making a film for the “GW MAKE A DIFFERENCE FILM FESTIVAL” may use GW’s equipment and edit their work. Students may also bring in previously shot footage to edit. Upon completion, movies can be saved on a DVD for home viewing and/or submission to other film competitions.

The volleyball club provides students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade an opportunity to learn basic volleyball skills and practice those skills. It also provides girls in 7th and 8th grade a chance to compete against other schools in game situations. The club runs as a clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the beginning of January to the middle of February. The club then runs as a team for 7th and 8th grade girls from the middle of February until approximately April 1st, every day of the week after school. There will be an announcement in November about our first meeting.
